We promote Healthy eating by providing fresh fruit and vegetables.

The Good Food Box buys from local farmers and distributors where possible.

Thanks to bulk buying we can provide vegetables and fruit at lower than supermarket prices.

In light of recent health concerns, we wanted to speak to what the Good Food Box is doing to help prevent the spread of illness.

We have limited volunteers, so the amount of people who will be near the produce is FAR fewer than those who are in contact or near your food from grocery stores. We are ensuring that none of the volunteers are symptomatic at all, of course. We have always, and will continue to practice proper food safe behaviors. We will be reminding all of our volunteers to be extra mindful of these practices.

All surfaces and bins will be (as always) sanitized. We are using stronger concentrations of our cleaning solution .

We will be ensuring that only a couple of people at a time enter the buildings to pick up their boxes.

There will be a small station with hand sanitizer for everyone to use when they enter.

If you are displaying symptoms of illness, please do not come in to get your box(es). Please call the number for your pick up location (below) and someone will bring a box out to you. If you are ill and cannot come get your box, please have a friend or neighbor or family member pick up your box for you. If this turns out to be difficult, we MAY be able to assist you. We have very limited volunteers, but we may be able to arrange for a volunteer to bring your box to you. Please call Diane at 250-306-7800 if this is something you require.

Welcome to the Good Food Box

The Vernon Good Food Box is a volunteer run, non-profit, bulk Produce Buying initiative which helps families include more fresh fruit and vegetables in their meals.

The economical cost of the Good Food Box is made possible by group buying at wholesale prices. Volunteer labour for sorting and packing is also key to keeping the prices down. Volunteers in the Vernon area with a pick up truck who could help out one morning per month are always needed. We also need volunteers to help sort and pack boxes. Click on Volunteering to learn how you could help for as little as 1/2 day per month.

The selection of produce in the box changes with the seasons according to what is good quality and affordable at the time. Good Food Boxes come in two sizes - Large boxes are suitable for a household of 3 or more. Small boxes suitable for a household of 1 or 2 are now available in all locations. Click on “The Good Food Box” for more information.

The ORDER BY date is on the TUESDAY ONE WEEK BEFORE DISTRIBUTION DAY. Click on “Order & Pay” for details.

Boxes are distributed on the Third Thursday of the month from a central location to the following areas: Vernon, Armstrong, Lumby, Falkland, and Cherryville

We also offer the opportunity for individuals and organizations to sponsor a Good Food Box for a family. Click on “Sponsor” for details.
